Multi-Engined

DHSL is custodian of comprehensive airframe design data, manufacturing drawings and repair schemes for the biplane multi-engined de Havilland aeroplanes, as listed:

  • DH84 Dragon
  • DH89/89A Dragon Rapide
  • DH90/90A Dragonfly

For the DH89A Dragon Rapide only, in 2012 we entered into a CAA Type Responsibility Agreement (TRA) so that the aeroplane remains eligible, if required, for an ICAO-compliant Certificate of Airworthiness to enable Commercial Air Transport operation.

An authoritative listing of the main DH89 and DH89A variants, and the standard engine/propeller combinations, is available at PDF Downloads.

Modifications

The index of Design Authority Modifications for the DH89A Dragon Rapide only is available at PDF Downloads. Further information, including supply of Modification Leaflets where applicable, is available from DHSL.

Please note that our archive does not contain details of modifications raised independently of DHSL or its predecessor Type Design Organisations. Such modifications may also be proprietary to their originators. [In the UK certain ‘Biplane Twin’ restorations have been documented as ‘modifications’ and basic details may be searched from the public domain CAA AAN Database at Useful Links]

Technical News Sheets

A de Havilland ‘Technical News Sheet’ (TNS) corresponds to the industry-standard Service Bulletin, and may likewise be given mandatory status by a National Aviation Authority.

TNS for the Dragon Rapide were aimed originally at solely the DH89 Series. Since then the successive Type Design Organisations have also embedded any necessary information for the other ‘Biplane Twins’ (DH84 and DH90) in the one volume of ‘Rapide TNS’.

All Biplane Twin owners and engineers should therefore refer both to Rapide TNS and to the appropriate Maintenance & Repair Manual for their particular type, and should read one in conjunction with the other.

The index of current DH89A Dragon Rapide TNS is available at PDF Downloads.
